The space startup dataset
Every company in this directory as a spreadsheet: 180 space startups across 22 countries and 20 sectors, plus 150 funding rounds with the source link each one was verified against. Free to use with attribution. Curated by hand since 2019, not scraped.

Your download
Thanks. Here are the files, generated 2026-08-03.
- space-startups.csvOne row per company, 180 rows. Sector, country, founding year, stage, disclosed total, latest round, headcount band, status and the profile URL.
- space-startup-funding.csvOne row per funding round, 150 rows, each carrying the source URL it was verified against. This is the part the aggregators do not hand you.
- space-startups.jsonThe same data, nested, for anyone working in code rather than a spreadsheet. Rounds sit inside their company.
README.txt carries the licence and the column notes.

|---|---|
website | Live at the last sweep. Dead and squatted domains are unlinked rather than passed on. |

primary_sector, all_sectors | The 20 sectors, pipe separated. Companies can sit in more than one. |
stage | Last publicly disclosed round as verified, not as rumoured. |
total_funding_usd | Blank unless a documented figure supports it. See below. |
latest_round, latest_round_date, latest_round_amount | The most recent round on record. |
employees | Headcount band. |
status, status_note | active, acquired, shutdown or graduated, with the plain-English explanation. |

record_updated | When the record was last touched. Honest, not cosmetic. |

Why this one is different
The funding file carries its receipts. Every round links to the reporting or the company announcement that documents it, so you can check any number rather than take it on faith. Most space datasets are aggregator exports of each other, which is why the same wrong figure turns up in five places.
The blanks are deliberate. 113 companies have no total funding figure, because no documented number supports one. Award ceilings are not money in the bank and debt is not equity, so neither gets blended into a headline total. Where a stage was corrected, the stale amount was removed rather than left sitting there looking authoritative.
It includes the companies that did not make it. Acquisitions, shutdowns and the ones that outgrew the startup label are all still in the file, labelled, because a dataset that quietly drops its failures will tell you the wrong thing about survival rates. How we verify covers the standards in full.

Questions
Is the space startup dataset free?
Yes. All 180 companies and 150 sourced funding rounds are free to download and free to use, including commercially. The only condition is attribution: credit Space Bandits and link to spacebandits.io.
Why do you ask for an email address?
Because it is the only thing asked for anywhere on this site. Every profile, sector page and funding figure stays open, free and crawlable, with no login and no paywall. The spreadsheet is the convenience version, and an email address is the trade. You can unsubscribe in one click and the data stays yours.
How often is the data updated?
The files are regenerated on every deploy, so a download is always current as of that build. This one was generated 2026-08-03. Records carry their own last-updated date so you can see which entries are fresh and which are overdue.
Where do the funding figures come from?
Reporting and primary announcements, each linked in the funding file. Nothing is estimated, modelled or inferred, and no figure is carried over from an aggregator without a source we could check.
What does a blank funding total mean?
That no documented figure supports a total, not that the company raised nothing. Where public numbers conflict, or a total would blend equity with debt, government award ceilings or a founder’s own money, the cell stays blank. A gap is more useful than a guess.
Can I use this in a research paper or a product?
Yes, both, with attribution. Cite it as: Space Bandits space startup dataset, 2026-08-03, https://www.spacebandits.io/data. If you build something with it, we would love to see it.
