Beyond Reach Labs

Beyond Reach Labs builds solar arrays that fold flat. Flarewing comes in three sizes, from a 9 kilogram wing that opens to 30 square metres and up to 8 kilowatts, to a 109 kilogram one that opens to 625 square metres and up to 200 kilowatts, and each stows as a strip a few centimetres thick so that more satellites, or more power per satellite, fit under one fairing. The engineering problem is stiffness. The longer an array, the lower its first bending frequency and the more it shakes the spacecraft it is bolted to.

Mitchell Fogelson, a Carnegie Mellon robotics PhD, and Pele Collins, who spent seven years at SpaceX leading the Dragon parachute team, founded the company in 2023 and took it through Y Combinator's winter 2026 batch. A $10 million seed led by Interlagos closed in July 2026, and the company moved into a 16,000 square foot factory in Brooklyn with the aim of building ten units a day by the end of 2027.

No Flarewing has flown. The small model is due to finish ground qualification at the end of 2026, with customer integration from early 2027 and the larger sizes qualified through 2027, and the $342.6 million of letters of intent the company cites are intentions rather than orders.
